Naval architecture is at the forefront of all we do in marine insurance but we understand so little of the history of naval architecture in the US. Join us for this presentation to include: What is Naval Architecture?; Origins as a form engineering “Field of Study”; Rules and Regulations including SOLAS, Class Societies, Flag Administrations; Sub-Disciplines including powering and resistance, hydro-aerodynamics and construction; Vessel and Structure Types including cargo, naval, work, offshore and recreational; Naval Architecture and Shipyards in the US from new build yards, repair facilities, impact of Jones Act and need for US Flag vessels to major design consultancies. Presentation will close with Career Paths; Locations of Study in the US and Future Trends and Challenges in Naval Architecture.
