COMI (CERTIFICATE OF OCEAN MARINE INSURANCE) APPLICATION

AIMU Certificate of Ocean Marine Insurance (COMI) was designed by the American Institute of Marine Underwriters Education Committee to allow marine professionals to demonstrate a level of expertise and ensure a level of credentials as well as dedication to professional development.

CRITERIA

To earn a "Certificate of Ocean Marine Insurance", a student must complete any five of the "introductory" classes offered by AIMU (excluding the five-day "Introduction to Ocean Marine Insurance"). The introductory classes include either of the following: Introduction to Cargo Insurance, Introduction to Protection and Indemnity Insurance, Introduction to Hull Insurance, Introduction to Yacht Insurance, Introduction to Bumbershoot Insurance, Introduction to Marine General Liability Insurance, Introduction to Ocean Marine Claims Examiner, Introduction to Offshore Energy and Introduction to Reinsurance.

TESTING COMPONENT

To earn the Certificate of Ocean Marine Insurance, students will be required to pass a test for each of the five areas of study. The test will be administered electronically.

CLASS COMPLETED PRIOR TO 2017

Any student who, prior to 2017, completed five introductory classes necessary for a COMI Certificate will be awarded a Certificate and be exempt from taking the electronic test. However, it will be contingent on the student notifying AIMU staff to request the Certificate. AIMU staff will check the records to ensure they meet the requirements and issue the Certificate.

CERTIFICATE

The COMI is not a designation or certification. It is a certificate that reflects a level of expertise and may bring notable credentials to a marine professional's resume.
