This is the sixteenth annual Marine Insurance Day Seminar, a collaborative effort of the American Institute of Marine Underwriters (AIMU), American Marine Insurance Forum (AMIF), Association of Average Adjusters of the U.S. and Canada, Inland Marine Underwriters Association (IMUA), and Marine and Insurance Claims Association (MICA). It is through our joint efforts that we can provide high quality educational seminar.

ASSOCIATION OF AVERAGE ADJUSTERS OF THE US AND CANADA BASICS INCLUDING REAL LIFE EXAMPLES

Presentation will include a brief introduction to the basics and history of General Average and an update on new GA Guidelines and security documents to be adopted at the CMI Conference in Antwerp in late October. Discussion to provide two salvage operations, HOEGH XIAMEN (fire in Jacksonville in June 2020, leading to total loss of vehicle carrier and cargo, found by the NTSB to be attributable principally to inadequate vehicle battery securement) and EVER FORWARD (refloating 12,000 TEU container carrier aground in Chesapeake Bay in March/April 2020, including lightering some 500 cargo containers, and extensive dredging). Presentations followed by Q&A.

The war in Ukraine and US financial sanctions imposed to pressure Moscow into changing course have created large, complex risks for maritime actors. The panel will address war risk exclusion and key areas of financial sanctions risk, and looks forward to your questions on these topics.

CARGO THEFT TRENDS AND METHODS
Cargo theft continues to evolve both in methods and what’s targeted, when, and why. Organized rings continue to create new methods for theft and new ways to move the goods once stolen. This session will examine the latest information related to cargo theft, the data and how to understand it, as well as what changes are key to understanding it.
